Best Restaurants in Cachi, Argentina
Nestled in the stunning Calchaquí Valley, surrounded by towering mountains lies the charming town of Cachi. Located in the province of Salta, Argentina, Cachi is a hidden gem that is totally worth the 3-hour (5 hours if you want to take in the beauty) road trip from Salta.
Here are restaurants I highly recommend on your trip to Cachi!
For traditional dishes unique to this region, El Aujero is THE place. This was some of the best locro (Argentine meat stew) I’ve had in Salta! One of my favorite aspects of this restaurant is the live music performed by local musicians. They were so interactive and made everyone walking into the restaurant feel welcomed.
Using local + fresh ingredients, Abasto serves regional inspired-dishes as well as their own. After days of eating locro and empanadas, it was refreshing to have delicious food prepared with locally grown produce! The Bife de Chorizo (Argentina’s prized cut) and grilled veggies were my favorite entree, which when paired with a baked Quince topped with sweet cream made for a DIVINE meal. I can’t promise you all of these items will be available because their menu evolves with the seasons, but I can promise you this will be a very unique experience and the owners are so sweet and welcoming.
Tampu Resto has some of the best empanadas in town and they also have a unique quinoa flour empanada variety. Attached to a hotel, this cozy cafe is the perfect spot for a light snack while you’re exploring the town.
Located inside The Cortijo Hotel in Cachi, Chef Juanjo Robles creates signature local dishes. He creates traditional regional recipes (like humitas- a pre-hispanic corn dish similar to tamales) and gives them that gourmet touch!
Located 15 minutes outside of town in the valley, this gorgeous winery is one of the only in the region that serves a full menu to enjoy with your wine tastings. I would recommend touring neighboring Miraluna Bodega and following that with a tasting + lunch at Bodega Puna! Be sure to make a reservation (choose outside seating for the stunning valley views) as they can fill up + need to plan accordingly and note their restaurant is only open from 12 pm-3:30 pm.
(They only serve breakfast and lunch so keep that in mind when arranging for plans)
Although Cachi is small, it is definitely worth visiting, for the stunning landscapes, small batch + intimate wineries, and restaurants.
