Best Octopus in Cartagena, Colombia

After extensive research and multiple attempts here is what I found to be some of the best-grilled octopus in this spicy city.

Restaurante Alma

This was hands down the best-grilled octopus I had while staying in Cartagena. This dish was presented differently than your traditional whole grilled octopus. It came sliced expertly and topped with a delicious creamy citrus sauce. The flavor combinations were so tangy + savory, I wish I had ordered a whole dish for myself!

Doña Lola

The combination of seafood and garnishes in this dish is what made this octopus so special to me. Topped with mouth-watering chimichurri and served on crispy yucca fritters, this could have been my stand-alone meal. During dinner, they have various traditional dancers that entertain guests right in the dining room.

Uma Cantina Peruana

Although this Peruvian restaurant may seem out of place, Uma Cantina does an excellent job blending the flavors of these culinary capitals. This octopus was served on a table-side barbeque with boy choy, tomatoes, and criolla potatos. The octopus was perfectly crispy and melts in your mouth. Be sure to try the fresh ceviche to accompany your main course at this unique establishment.

The strong Caribbean influence in Cartagena is what makes the cuisine of this seaside city unique in all of Colombia. From ceviche, whole snapper, and grilled octopus, Cartagena’s seafood is must-try while visiting this amazing country. Buen Provecho!
