Alaska Nursing License Application Loophole

Applying for your Alaska nursing license by endorsement can be a very lengthy process. If you already know you want to go to Alaska, I would make sure you have everything submitted 3-6 months in advance. Most hospitals will not even accept your submission as a travel nurse if you don’t have your license in hand. Luckily, I was able to find a loophole in the process.

Most of the hospitals in Anchorage are very firm on the rule of having your Alaska nursing license in hand before submission. If you are open to working outside of Anchorage, I would submit for a job even if you don’t have your license. If you are granted a job, you can email the Board of Nursing stating that your license is still pending but you have a job starting and provide them the date. They will then email you a form to send to your employer so they can communicate with the Board of Nursing that you are in fact starting a contract. I know rules can change but I would try this option if this is your only option! I was able to get my license in 6 weeks because I already had a job!
