Seafood Lover’s Must Try While in San Francisco

Nestled along the picturesque coastline of California, Tony's Seafood is a hidden gem that has been satisfying seafood lovers for decades. With its charming location, fresh shellfish, and a commitment to sustainability, Tony's Seafood has become one of my go-to destinations and it still remains my favorite restaurant in California! Here are some of my reasons Tony’s is a must visit for anyone exploring Point Reyes.

(Tony’s Seafood is a part of Hog Island Oyster Co. based out of Marshall, CA. All of their restaurants are incredible but this post focuses on my favorite restaurant they own.)

Tony’s Seafood From Inside

  1. A Flavorful and Inventive Menu:

Tony's Seafood boasts a menu that caters to all tastes and preferences and is reinvented seasonally. Whether you're a fan of classic seafood dishes or looking to explore new flavors, their diverse menu has something for everyone. My favorites are a bowl of creamy clam chowder, savory seafood stew, mussels in a rich broth and fresh, local sourdough. Platters of freshly shucked oysters of various type and origin are a must try and highlight the inventive culinary creations.

2. Fresh Shellfish and Sustainable Sourcing:

One of the key factors that sets Tony's apart is its commitment to serving fresh, local shellfish while promoting sustainability and positive business practices in collaboration with leading scientists and organizations. As a founding member of the Shellfish Grower’s Climate Coalition, Hog Island Oyster Co. takes an active role in promoting a positive environmental impact from their farming practices. Who new that oysters efficiently filter ocean water and reduce ocean acidification which has been a major contributor to changing ocean conditions? By ensuring the longevity of marine ecosystems and supporting the local economy, Hog Island Oyster Co. is allowing future generations to enjoy amazing food.

(If you are really interested in learning more about Oysters, you should check out their Farm Tours. I did the Whole Hog Experience and it made me fall more in love with this company. I also got to learn how to shuck my own oysters and enjoy plenty of raw+ grilled, cooked by our tour guide).

3. Warm Hospitality and Expertise:

The casual setting at Tony's Seafood is in stark contrast to the elevated cuisine. The staff is so friendly and always patient with whatever questions you may have. They have live music every Sunday from 5-7pm which really gives it that community feeling!

4. A Gateway to Point Reyes' Many Hiking Trails:

The restaurant also serves as a gateway to the natural wonders of Point Reyes. After indulging in a delicious meal, take the opportunity to explore the surrounding area. Immerse yourself in the beauty of Point Reyes National Seashore, where you can hike along scenic trails such as the Tomales Point Trail. If you are lucky you may even spot migratory whales from the coast or free roaming elk that inhabit the area!

Tony's Seafood in Point Reyes, California, is an experience that captures the essence of the region's optimal shellfish farming conditions. The stunning location, commitment to freshness + sustainability, and inventive menu has earned this restaurant group a well-deserved reputation throughout the bay area. There is a reason they have become one of the major oyster distributors in the city! If you are unable to make the drive north from San Fransisco, Tony’s Seafood is one of 4 Hog Island Oyster Co. restaurants around the Bay Area so be sure to try what this amazing collective has to offer.
